LHU Student Join First Overseas Internship Program in Auckland

Chang Yu-Hsien, a third-year student from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages at Lunghwa University of Science and Technology (LHU), participated in the university’s first “Dream Sail Study Abroad—Hotel and Cultural Services Internship Program” in Auckland, New Zealand during the winter break. The one-month internship not only improved her language and professional skills but also broadened her cross-cultural communication experience, helping her adapt to international workplaces and multicultural environments.

Chang interned at the Crown Institute of Studies in Auckland, a well-known institution specializing in tourism, hospitality, business, and health education. Through hands-on training in hotel management courses, she learned practical skills such as coffee brewing, bartending, and event promotion, gaining valuable workplace experience.

She shared that she lived in Park Tower student dormitory during the internship, where she stayed with students from India, the U.S., Japan, and other countries. This living arrangement provided opportunities for cultural exchange, including sharing traditions and cooking international dishes. She emphasized that language is never a true barrier to communication—what matters most is the willingness to connect.

Professor Xi-rui Chu, program director and faculty member of the Department of Applied Foreign Languages, stated that “stepping out of Taiwan and connecting globally begins with overseas internships.” He highlighted that these programs offer a safe platform for students to apply what they’ve learned and grow beyond the classroom.

Since 2020, LHU has offered overseas internships in London and now expands to new global locations, continuing to support students in enhancing their international competitiveness.
