Goals and Development of Master Program in International Tourism and MICE Industry

In response to the national policy and the development and talent needs of the Tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions) industries, providing high-quality training for professionals and an international standard of service, has become an important direction for university development. The Department of Applied Foreign Languages of the Lunghwa University of Science and Technology has been approved by the Ministry of Education to establish a Master degree program in International Tourism and MICE in the 2015 academic year. The program aims to train planning and management executives with linguistic competence. The program focuses on “International Tourism” and “Conference and Exhibition” courses combined with existing foreign language courses to equip students with Tourism and MICE knowledge and hospitality related English skills. The master program is a practice-based curriculum model, with an emphasis on strengthening competence in tourism and MICE related English, combined with management and marketing knowledge in the tourism and conventions industries, and strengthening interaction and links between students and the tourism exhibition industry through conducting a graduation project including writing a thesis or technical report, and participating in an international business internship.

Students participating in this program will develop a diverse competency in language, leadership, management, marketing, planning, implementation of activities, and negotiation as well as superb knowledge of the tourism and convention industry. Graduates will be qualified to enter mid-level executive careers in the international hospitality, tourism, or MICE industries.
